This page explains, in detail, which cookies and similar technologies Daily ePaper uses on localhost:8080/mandali_epaper, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They let the site remember a session, a preference, or a choice you made. Similar tools include local storage in the browser and a service worker used for notifications.

Some cookies are strictly necessary for the ePaper to work (login, security, remembering that you accepted this notice). Others are functional (for example your reading district). We do not currently use advertising cookies to build a third-party ad profile of you on this site.

Why we use them

We use cookies and similar storage to:

Keep you signed in while you read, clip, or download;
Protect forms and admin sessions against common attacks;
Remember the district or area you chose so editions can be ranked for you;
Remember that you have seen and continued past the cookie notice;
Support optional browser push alerts, if you allow them.

If you continue using the website after the notice, we treat that as acceptance of these cookies, as explained on the notice itself.

Cookies we set

Names can vary slightly by browser, but the following are the main first-party cookies used by Daily ePaper:

Name	Purpose	Typical lifetime
`MEPSESSID`	PHP session for signed-in readers and site security. HttpOnly; not readable by page scripts.	Until you close the browser (session), or until the session expires on the server.
`epaper_reader_location`	Your chosen or detected reading location (district, state, optional area) so we can show matching editions first.	Hours for a rough network guess; longer if you set location yourself or allow GPS.
`mep_cookie_ok`	Remembers that you clicked Continue on the cookie notice so we do not show it on every visit.	About 12 months.

We may add strictly necessary cookies for security (for example a CSRF token) when a form requires it. Those cookies are not used for advertising.

Third-party cookies

Some features load services we do not control. Those services may set their own cookies under their policies:

Google — if you sign in with Google, Google may set cookies on its domains for authentication.
Payment partner (for example Razorpay) — checkout pages may set cookies to complete a payment securely.
Maps / geocoding — used only when matching a place to a district, if that feature is enabled.
Fonts or CDN assets — a content network may set a technical cookie when serving images or files.

We do not sell cookie data to advertisers. Third parties process information under their own terms.

Local storage and similar tools

Besides cookies, the browser may keep:

localStorage key mep_cookie_ok — same purpose as the consent cookie, so the notice stays dismissed even if cookies are restricted in some browsers;
Push subscription data in the browser (and a matching record on our server) if you allow notifications;
Service worker files so push can still work after you close the tab.

Clearing site data in the browser removes these along with cookies.

How to control cookies

You can:

Delete cookies and site data for localhost:8080/mandali_epaper in your browser settings;
Block cookies; then sign-in, location ranking, and some forms may stop working;
Change or clear reading location from the location chip on the ePaper;
Turn off notifications in the browser site settings;
Revoke Google access from your Google account if you signed in that way.

Blocking all cookies will also remove mep_cookie_ok, so the notice may appear again on the next visit.

The cookie notice

The first time you open the public website, a notice explains that we use cookies and asks you to Continue. Choosing Continue (or continuing to browse after the notice) means you are happy to receive the cookies described here. Opening this Cookie Policy does not by itself dismiss the notice; you can read this page and then Continue on the next visit or from another page.
